Step 1 — Phonogram Cards

Teachers introduce and review concepts with a Key Word, Phonogram Cards, and Word Cards — 5 minutes of lesson time

Students in SPIRE are assessed individually to ensure concept mastery.

•  Placement Assessment—places students in the appropriate level of SPIRE.
• Pre- & Post-Level Test—assesses student mastery of all level concepts. Results can be compared to show gains at the end of a level.
• Mid-Level Test—assesses student mastery of the concepts taught in the first half of the level, checking spelling and decoding skills concept-by-concept.
• Concept Assessments—assesses students' mastery of a specific lesson concept.
• Concept Mastery Fluency Drills—provides a score of words correct per minute (WCPM).
• In printed SPIRE, students are assessed in a paper test, and data is collected on a recording form kept with the student's daily work binder. The SPIRE Digital Teacher Companion with Digital Student STAR seats, enables teachers to track those assessments online, score them automatically, and generate shareable reports.
• With Digital Student STAR seats, teachers assess students using their devices and tap on incorrect responses. The teaching and learning platform captures data and creates easy-to-read reports.

Workbooks — Consumable workbooks offer practice for every concept and reading selection. 1 per student for each SPIRE level

Illustrated Decodable Readers — Fully decodable fiction and nonfiction on varied topics. Set A: 60 illustrated versions of passage selections. Set B: 60 original titles for further practice. 1 per teacher for each SPIRE level

SPIRE Foundations: Sounds Sensible Workbooks — Consumable workbooks for students with a variety of practice activities. 1 per student for each SPIRE level

Digital Student Star Seats — Share, Track, Assess, and Report student progress. 12-month subscription. Powered by Exploros. 1 seat per student

Student Manipulatives Kit — Magnetic board and letters, sound circles and syllable rectangles. 1 per student

EPS Reading Assistant for SPIRE – AI-driven reading tutor that provides online reading practice with real-time adaptive feedback and micro-interventions to lock in learning and accelerate gains. 12-month subscription. 1 seat per student

To ensure that you have the correct materials for all of your students, we recommend that you administer the SPIRE® placement test prior to ordering. This assessment will provide you with the information you need to group and place students in the appropriate levels.
